Montessori 2 and 3
4 - 6 years old
Montessori 2 and 3 are both preschool classrooms that are for children ages 4 – 6, and is designed to both build on the introductory curriculum from Montessori 1 and to facilitate learning in accordance with a child’s natural progression. This atmosphere fosters a non-competitive environment where children are able to explore their natural curiosities and compare their accomplishments to their own advancements.
Program Features
- Teachers emphasize respect for personal space and materials
- Children will work for a longer Montessori period in areas such as:
- Practical Life, which develops independent self-help and fine motor skills
- Math, which emphasizes recognizing and forming numerals with tens and hundreds board activities
- Montessori beads, which are used for various games and learning activities to make math a concrete experience
- Sensorial activities, which develops all five senses through hands-on activities
- Language, which creates a solid awareness of phonics to introduce sounds, word families, and begin to teach children to read
- Science and social studies, which are expressed through weekly themes
- Montessori focuses on concrete experiences, and children are able to participate in hands-on activities including singing, blocks, dramatic play, art, and sand and water
- Teachers create skills portfolios to keep track of which skills are introduced and mastered, so that they can target individual lessons to each child, and share the information with parents at parent/teacher conferences
- Children are able to play outside twice a day, weather permitting, and participate in activities such as riding pedaled cars, climbing steps to slide, and throwing, catching, and kicking balls
- We introduce group games to enhance cooperation, turn taking, and specific developmental skills
- Naps occur once a day, in the early afternoon, as needed
- Our kitchens work to accommodate any allergies and dietary restrictions
